Udupi: Adani Foundation initiates Social Forestry Programme in Belapu village

Udupi, Jul 27: Adani Foundation, a CSR wing of Adani Group, kick-started Social Forestry programme through UPCL at Belapu gram panchayat. The programme was inaugurated by way of planting saplings in the premises of gram panchayat and distributing fruit bearing tree sapling to the villagers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Deviprasad, president of Belapu gram panchayat, appreciated the efforts of Adani Foundation in maintaining the green environment in the surrounding villages of its plant. He told that for the last 4 years Belapu gram panchayat is celebrating Vanamahotsava programme under the theme ‘One child per family and one tree per child’ and Adani Group is continuously supporting this noble cause. Also he said that in addition to the fruit bearing saplings, company has also helped farmers by way of distributing seedlings and fertilizers. Further he informed that Belapu village is known for a model village in the Asia Continent and Adani CSR is backing the panchayat for developing the basic infrastructure needs and agriculture also.



Kishore Alva said that in addition to the Rural Infrastructure Development works under CSR programme, Adani is giving equal importance for the social forestry and has earmarked nearly Rs 36 lac for the programme. Adani Foundation has already distributed fruit bearing sapling to 7000 school students in Udupi district and is moving forward with the planting of trees in the lands identified by Belapu, Mudarangadi and Palimar gram panchayats. The saplings would be planted in the lands identified by panchayat and the same would be maintained by Adani Foundation for a period of 3 years to convert the lands as mini forest area, Alva added.

Alva also told that Adani Foundation is having a vision of planting minimum 50,000 saplings and alike previous year, this year Adani Foundation would be supporting Forest Department of government of Karnataka for Vanamahotsava Saptaha.

Belapu gram panchayat vice-president Shobha Bhat, Shekabba, taluk panchayat member, panchayat members Dinesh Poojary, Suresh Devadiga, Anita Anand, Noor Jahan Faisam Banu, Vijayalakshmi Devadiga, Karunakara Shetty, Ushavasu, Sharath Kumar, Zaheer Ahmed, panchayat development officer H R Ramesh, Adani UPCL’s AGM Girish Navada, senior manager Ravi R Jere, Adani Foundation staff Vineet Anchan, Anudeep Poojary and Sukesh Suvarna were present on the occasion.
