Mysuru, Jul 6: University Grants Commission (UGC) has given its in-principle nod to renew the accreditation given to Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) having its headquarters in the city which was in hibernation since sometime. A meeting held at New Delhi on Thursday July 5 between the officials of UGC and KSOU gave positive indications about the university being able to begin its academic activities commencing from the current academic year. In all likelihood, admission process for the university might begin in a week's time.
Vice chancellor of the university, Prof D Shivalingaiah, stated that the meeting in which president of the executive committee of National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Dr Virander Singh Chauhan and six experts from different universities participated, was given all the details of the university supported with documents and all the doubts and questions raised by participants were answered. He said at New Delhi that the authorized information giving permission to run 32 non-technical courses in Karnataka might be received in a week. He explained that the meeting was also attended by KSOU registrar, Dr Khader Pasha, dean, Dr Jagadeesh and KSOU UGC unit coordinator, Dr N G Raju.
Shivalingaiah said that as courses have to begin either in January or July, KSOU will begin courses from July itself and that lecturers for different subjects had been appointed in 2017 itself. He added that admission for courses like BA, B Com, B Sc, MA, MCom, MSc, MBA, B Ed etc will begin after July 15.
