Mangaluru: New office bearers for Editor's Club elected

Mangaluru, July 3: Editors’ Club, an association of editors of small newspapers, in its members’ meeting, elected new office bearers for the year 2018-19 recently.

Iqbal Kuttar, editor of 'Encounter Prakshika', was elected president, Ashok Shetty B N of MPMLA News was elected chief secretary, Shaikh Isac Puttur of Karkotaka and Rajesh Kadri of Mangaluru Mirror vice presidents, Rajan Kumar K of Karavali Kesari, secretary, Mithur Hameed Khandak of Hai Puttur, joint secretary and Ranjith Shetty Kavoor of Bantara Sangama was elected the treasurer.

Executive committee members elected on the occasion were Hamza Meramajal of Byari Mithra, Ramesh Pandith of Click, Honnayya of Namma Paksha and D I Aboobacker Kairangala of Madarangi.

The status and problems faced by print media due to competitions by social networking and internet media were discussed in the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting to urge the government to relax rules to include small newspapers in the list of government media and cancel unnecessary verification by excise department.

Chief secretary Ashok V N welcomed and thanked the gathering.
