Kundapur, Jul 3: "I had objected to the general body meeting that was conducted by the town municipality when the election code of conduct was in force. Why this was not included in the agenda for this meeting?" questioned Chandrashekhar Kharvi, member of the town municipality of Kundapur. This question took various twists and turns and the statement given by the ruling party member Raviraj Kharvi infuriated the nominated members and the proceedings of the town municipality were marred by confusion and chaos.

Objection for the cost of maintenance of elevator

Member of the town municipality, Raviraj Kharvi expressed his unhappiness over the cost of Rs 1.25 lac that is given for the maintenance of elevator at the town municipality building. He questioned whether it is appropriate to give the whole sum to one company for maintaining the elevator. Engineer of the town municipality clarified that the said company is responsible for all the issues that arise in the functioning of the elevator. The company will be responsible for any accident which is caused due to the malfunctioning of the elevator. The cost of the maintenance, if done directly by the town municipality, would be much more than what is given to the maintenance company now.

Request for immediate action on road repair

Member Gunaratna urged to urgently carry out the repair work on roads within the town municipality limits as it has become difficult to commute due to the potholes. He was supported by Ravikala Ganesh Sherigar and Raviraj Kharvi.

Streetlight issue at Kodi

Prabhakar Kodi, one of the member said, "Streetlights are not functioning in Kodi for four months. When questioned the town municipality says that the tender is called and work will be done. I request the president, vice-president and chief officer to visit the area."

Sandeep Kodi seconded the issue of streetlights raised by Prabhakar and said, "Don't you want people of Kodi to function during night time? Concerned people are not carrying out their duties properly. Kodi is in dark. You are not able to gauge the severity of the issue."

Before the beginning of the meeting, Dr Robert Rebello, medical officer of Kundapur public hospital, gave information on the epidemics that get spread during the monsoon season and also suggested the precautions that need to be taken to the members of the town municipality.

The meeting was presided by Vasanti Mohan Saranga, president of the town municipality. Rajesh Kaveri, vice-president, Vittal Kunder, president of standing committee and Gopalkrishna Shetty, chief officer were present.
