Kasaragod, Jun 26: In an incident which happened at Kotikulam, a youth was injured in crossfire during friction between two ganja trafficking gangs. The incident happened on the night of Sunday June 24.
The injured youth, Fayaz (19), from Palakunnu here, stands admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru. He has sustained serious injuries.
The incident happened at around 10 pm inside City Center building at Kotikulam. As per information gathered by Bekal police, the bullet which injured Fayaz had been fired by Nasser Fayaz from Kolachchi. A case about this incident has been registered in Bekal police station.
Almost all the shops in this complex were closed when the fight erupted. It is said that mafia gangs used this building for illegal activities after the regular shops closed down at the end of the day.
As per information, ganja mafia has been very active in Palakunnu and surrounding areas and the government departments have not been able to exercise control over this activity. People have been blaming police department for failing to contain these gangs.
Bekal police are also looking into whether the bullet was purposefully fired at the injured person or whether Fayaz accidentally came across when the shot was fired.
