Udupi, Jun 22: “Yoga must be practised in every house of Udupi. More priority should be given to yoga in rural areas. Let us form yoga villages here. Yoga should be practised by two to three members of every family. By this way, Yoga villages can be formed. In this regard, the concerned departments and self-help service organisations must work,” said zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Thursday, June 21.
He was speaking at International Yoga Day celebration organized at indoor stadium Ajjarkad, in association with Ayush department Bengaluru, Youth Empowerment and Sports department, Public Education department, Dr G Shankar Women’s First Grade College and PG Study Center, Ajjarkad.
“Yoga should not be limited to only a day, but it should be practised daily. It will help us to maintain sound mind and physical health. There is a village in Kerala popularly known as ‘Yoga village’ as Yoga is regularly practised in every house in that village. Likewise, Udupi district must give top priority for yoga in the days to come in order to form yoga villages,” he said.
Nalini Pradeep Rao said, “Yoga will help us stay away from deteriorating mental health, stressful lifestyle and dietary system. Yoga is the best solution to sustain health.”
Prof Jyotsna, Muniyalu Ayurveda College explained the demonstration. Vivekananda Pai helped practised meditation.
Priyanka Mary Francis, deputy commissioner, Sivananda Kapashi, CEO of zilla panchayat, Anuradha, additional deputy commissioner, Janardhan, CMC commissioner, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, assistant director of Youth and Sports department, Dr Bhaskar, principal, Dr G Shankar Women’s First Grade College, Udupi, and Madhukar, assistant director of Education department practised yoga.
Guinness record holder K Tanushree was felicitated.
District Ayursh officer Dr Alakananda Rao welcomed the gathering. Veena Karanth compered the programme.
