Bangalore, Sep 23: Though Anju Bobby George's Olympic dreams got shattered by the metatarsal injury, however the ace long jumper isn't ready to leave the scene abruptly. "I am not tired of jumping and I will be competing as long as my body is fit. I am not ready to call it quits on a low," Anju told TOI on Monday.
The star athlete, who also missed the recent World Athletics Final, said the pain has diminished over the last one month probably due the two cortisone injections she took three days before competing in Beijing. "I don't feel the pain any more when I walk. But I'm afraid it may return if I use the spikes," she said.
After a planned trip to meet an orthopaedic expert in South Africa didn't materialise, Anju is planning to turn to ayurveda. "We even had an appointment ready with the doctor in South Africa but in the end it didn't work out," the 31-year-old said.
Anju's husband and coach Robert Bobby George confirmed that she won't be returning to the track for another two months at least. "She is still recovering from the Olympic shock. Now she will focus on lesser challenges. Doctors have prescribed three more months rest as the injury recurred, probably due to overuse," he said.
"I think she will recover by December but she would resume training only after that." Anju had suffered the same injury back in 2000 which forced her out of action for four months and saw her miss the Sydney Olympics. "We don't want to make any claims now. We will work our way quietly," he added.
