Mangaluru, May 21: The 31st Shramadan of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was arranged at Urwa Stores. Srikanth K, regional head, Federal Bank, Mangaluru and C Devadas Kamath jointly flagged off the Abhiyan on May 20 at 7.30 am in front of Sri Sharada Vidyapeetha English Medium School. Capt Ganesh Karnik, Dr Dhanesh Kumar, Kamalaksha Pai
and others were present on the occasion.
The 32nd Shramadan was organized at Vamanjur near check post on the same day. Swami Jitakamanandaji, president of Mangaluru Ramakrishna Math flagged off the drive. Local corporator Hemalatha Raghu Salian, Balakrishna, Riyaz Vamanjoor, Charles Salian and others were present at the venue.
Swami Jitakamanandaji said, “Keeping our surroundings clean should be first priority of every responsible citizen. We should stop littering. It is a welcome to sign to note that slowly people are awakening to the call of Swacchata Abhiyan. Main intention behind the Ramakrishna Mission initiative is to awaken the citizens to their responsibility of keeping their surroundings clean.”
Cleanliness drive at Urwa Stores
Staff of Federal Bank under Joyson D’Souuza and Akshay Kumar cleaned both sides of the road leading towards Kottara including road dividers. Students of Nitte institution cleaned the road leading from Urwa bus stand to Chilimbi. Footpaths, road dividers and all the vacant spots were thoroughly cleaned. Masahiro & other volunteers cleaned the Urwa stores bus stand. Dilraj Alva and other volunteers removed, with the help of JCB, garbage lying at a spot on the road leading towards Angadigudde. Sand and mud lying on the footpath were removed helping the pedestrians. Slab was laid while repairing the footpath. Volunteers also visited houses and shops in the locality distributing awareness handbills.
Volunteering by transgenders
Nearly 20 transgenders volunteered in the Abhiyan in the Swacchata Abhiyan at Urwa Stores. Ramya Gowda, Varsha Shetty Hassan, Pallavi and others in the group cleaned the roads leading towards Angadigudde & Chilimbi. All the volunteers & pubic greatly appreciated their support.
New bus shelter at Vamanjoor
On the occasion of 32nd sharmadan, a new bus stand was erected and dedicated at Vamanjoor check post. Raghu Salian and Sudhir Vamanjur shared a genuine concern at the plight of the existing facility that could be hardly called a bus stand. At their request a new bus shelter was erected with good roofing, special seats, floor with tiles and board depicting awareness on cleanliness. The work was going on for the past few days. Volunteers also undertook nearly 2 hours of cleanliness work in the area followed by the dedication. Members of Jayashankara Mitra Mandali, Vamanjoor Friends Circle, and other public actively participated in the drive. Umanath Kotekar coordinated the drive.
Sanjo Joseph, Prakash Garodi, Seema Haji, K Nagesh, Satish Kenkanaje, Sudhiksha Kiran Kumar and others participated in the drive. MRPL and Nitte Institutions are sponsoring the drive.
