Kundapur, May 20: Unknown thieves targetted the house of a businessman located near Kumbhashi bus stand in the taluk on the night of Friday May 18 and took away gold ornaments and cash amounting to six lac rupees.

Owner of the house, Shantharam Prabhu, had been away along with family members to attend a religious programme organized at the residence of his elder brother on Friday night. Shantharam owns a petrol bunk in the town. The gang of thieves, which was perhaps aware about the family's programme, broke open the front lock of the house, gained entry into the house, and took away foreign currency notes, cash and gold ornaments totally valued at over six lac rupees, it is said.

The thieves, after opening the almirahs inside the house and burgling whatever valuables they could find, escaped from the rear door.

The district finger print experts and sniffer dogs visited the place and scouted the area. The sniffer dogs which took a tour of the area, stopped at the eastern side of the compound wall where a shoe of a thief and foot prints were found. This indicates that the thieves could have come in by scaling the compound wall.

District additional superintendent of police, Kumar Chandra, circle inspector, Manjappa B R, police inspector, Harish, and other police personnel visited the spot.

Similar theft had happened at nearby Koteshwar a month back. Going by the way the theft was committed, the two thefts appear to be the handiwork of the same gang of thieves.
