Bengaluru: 9,746 voter ID cards found in Jalahalli flat being returned

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 18: All the 9,746 voter identity cards (ID) found in a flat at Jalahalli within the limits of Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency limits are being returned to their true owners. The election commission has deployed 60 revenue inspectors of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike for the task since Thursday and hopes to complete the task within two to three days.

As per the directions of the commission, these cards have to be delivered personally to voters whose names appear in these cards. They cannot be given to family members or relatives. The officials are required to find out the real voters and hand over the cards against acknowledgement.

Recovery of these voter ID cards together in a flat had given rise to concern and the election commission had postponed the election that was to be held on May 15. Several persons including former MLA, Muniratna, have been booked in this regard. Now the election in this constituency is scheduled to be held on May 28 and counting of votes will take place on May 30.
