Puttur, May 18: Acting on the complaint that Sharmahan Multipurpose Cooperative Society functioning from Christopher Complex on APMC Road here has cheated its customers, the police have arrested two persons connected with this society.
The arrested persons happen to be Gireesh Kumar (30), a resident of Bellippady village here and president of the society, and Keshava T from Tarigudde, who is the vice president and secretary of the society. While Gireesh was taken into custody from Galimukha, Keshava was arrested from APMC Road.
The arrests were made on the basis of complaint filed by Shreesha Keshava Yedapadithaya from Yeyyady, on the basis of which a case stands registered in the town police station here.
The society had commenced operations in the year 2014. Shreesha had deposited various sums in the names of different family members in the society during the period between 2016 and 2018. The total of such deposits made him amount to Rs 75.52 lac. It is said that several other customers too have been cheated relating to their deposits and chit fund memberships.
The police have sealed the office of the society on APMC Road. Investigation is yet to gain momentum, and the total amount the customers have been cheated is yet to be arrived at, although as per an estimate the people have been taken for a ride to the extent of one crore rupees.
