Belagavi, Apr 29: Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani who was in Belagavi for a interactive session with students was stumped by a young girl after she questioned why the BJP had selected an 'old' leader like Yeddyurappa as its chief ministerial candidate for the Karnataka elections.
The question was asked at KLE Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College where Irani took part in a interactive session on April 28.
Irani fumbled for a second, cut short the student's question and said that Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Rahul Ganhi are old too.
"Akhilesh Yadav though younger could not deliver as Uttar Pradesh CM. Yeddyurappa who has delivered on promises has been chosen for his experience. It is more important to deliver when you are in politics," she said.
Irani faced similar tough questions from the medical and nursing students during the session.
To a question on why death penalty was punishment only for rapists of children and not adults, Irani did not answer the question but said took credit for the BJP government for making punishment harsher.
On ATMs going cashless, she said that rumour mongers were spreading false news by circlulating pictures of the situation post-demonetisation. She also alleged that ATMs went dry as some people were hoarding cash ahead of the elections.
Smriti Irani also ridiculed Congress president Rahul Gandhi on the issue of GST and said that he did not even know the meaning of GST and accused him of spreading false news on the issue and thus making a fool of himself.
