Moodbidri, Apr 27: After a married woman committed suicide by jumping into a well near her husband's house, her husband and mother-in-law have been arrested suspecting their role for her death.

The complaint was registered against her husband and mother-in-law after victim’s parents grew suspicious over her death. The police have taken the duo into custody.

It may be recalled that Jyothi (33) ended her life in Kurthanda on April 23. But her parents alleged that it was a planned murder.

Jyothi's husband Dinesh Shetty is a daily wage worker and was living with wife, two children and his mother. The children were sent to Jyothi's house 10 days before her death following summer vacation.

On the fateful night when Jyothi took extreme step, police were immediately informed about it and her body was sent for post mortem.

Though the neighbours say that they were a happy couple, Jyothi's parents have suspected that it was a planned murder.

Dinesh and his mother Vanaja Shedti have been taken into custody following complaint by the Moodbidri police and were sent for 14-day judicial custody.

I don't think, under the law, the husband and his relatives can be arrested merely on the strength of some suspicions.

Whenever there is an unnatural death, people jump to conclusions because of their instinctive suspicions. But that is not sufficient under the law.

However, the husband and his relatives are very poor people. Hence do not have the ability to fight the police injustice.

Many women commit suicide because of depression. But the Indian legal system has never heard of it.

Marriage is a mixture of all, not only for a husband and also for his wife. who is coming as an outsider into her husband' house. Husband and his family should teach her first the adjustments.

There's a limit for adjustments..once it goes beyond the limit, some will opt for one of these steps. Some ladies silently suffer within the four walls rather than taking them outside the compound.

So sad, may her soul rest in peace and may Almighty bless her children abundantly and may they grow by the necessary, love, care understanding from the members of the family. Let's keep those children in our prayers.
