Bengaluru, Apr 20: Kith and kin of the political netas entering the fray in elections is quite common as father-son, father-daughter, widows of deceased leaders, relatives or sibblings have been contesting the polls.
However, this year the kith and kin poll fight saga promises to get a new twist with mother and son entering the fray from the same assembly constituency of Chintamani in Chikkaballapur district.
In an interesting development in the election field, mother and son entered poll fray in with Venkataravanamma and her son A S Bhaskar Reddy filed their nomination papers as Independent candidates to contest from the Chintamani seat.
It remains to be seen whether the mother and son will remain in the fray or any one among them withdraw the papers.
A clear picture will be known only on April 27, last day for withdrawal of nomination papers.
Incidentally, it may be recalled that BJP had selected sitting MLA from Nippani in Belagavi district Shashikala Jolle and her husband Annasaheb Jolle from Chikkodi-Sadalga assembly constituency of the same district, which is a first for a couple entering the fray and from a national party.
Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker N.H. Shivashankar Reddy was among others who filed papers from Kolar and Chickballapur districts on Friday.
Reddy filed papers seeking fifth consequetive term from Gowribidanur in Chickballapur district.
Former MLA and RPI leader Rajendran filed papers from KGF constituency. Trade union leader T. Tanagaraj also filed papers from the same seat as a CPM candidate.
Former IAS officer and Congress nominee Syed Jameer Pasha filed nomination papers from Kolar constituency, amid un-relented protests from partymen.
BJP district unit president and former MLA B.P. Venkatamuniyappa filed papers in Bangarpet constituency.
