Udupi, Apr 20: Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake announced at a press meet here on Friday April 20 that he will file his nomination on Monday April 23 at 11.00 am.
"I will seek blessings of Lord Krishna and then perform puja at Kaup Janardhan Temple. A special puja will be offered to Sri Amma of Kaup Marigudi. Accompanied by supporters, I will go in procession to the nomination office at Bannanje,” he added.
"My agenda will also include a visit to Juma Masjid Udyavar, St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar as well as the temples there. In addition, I will meet the bishop, priests, Swamijis and Moulvis to seek blessings,” he informed.
"On Saturday April 21, a Congress party workers' convention will be held in the morning at Hiriadka and at 4 pm the same day at Shirva. At the conventions I will seek blessings of the people,” he said.
"Developmental programmes of Congress party will be the main issue in the election promotion,” he said.
Commenting on a statement by former DySP Anupama Shenoy on his developmental works, Sorake said, "I have not met her personally, though I once saw her house. Perhaps she has no information about my work. I will send a copy of the book ‘Developmental Milestones’ of Kaup' to her house,"
Another of her allegations was that Sorake is corrupt, to which he responded, "Her allegation is entirely baseless. If she has any documents regarding my corruption, then let it be presented first. I am an open book and even the people know me better,”
"I have worked toward forming a Kaup town and taluk. Around Rs 137 crore has been spent on various developmental works such as restoration of 32 bridges, 21 lakes,”
On strict implementation of Election Code of Conduct, Sorake said, "It is good that a firm hold over election promotion activities is kept,”
"Senior Congress leader, Janardhan Poojary is a senior leader. He has recommended my name for minister. I want his blessings and have enquired about his ill health. I too visited Rajya Sabha member Oscar Fernandes in hospital in Delhi recently,” he said.
"Congress will obtain a clear majority with 130 seats. We are trying to progress from panchayat level to taluk level. So far Kaup had no identity in the state. There are a few plans and programmes for execution such as construction of a mini Vidhana Soudha and other government departmental buildings. There is scope for tourism development and generating more employment here. Kaup has potential to develop in all ways. My desire is to make Kaup a prosperous city in all aspects, “ Sorake said.
"I participated in the convention for NRIs held in the Gulf to create awareness on voting. There were around 2000 NRIs gathered,” he informed.
Naveen Chandra Shetty, Kaup block president, Diwakar Shetty, vice president of district Congress, Wilson Rodrigues, zilla panchayat member, Mahabala Kundar, Harish Shetty and Girish were present.
