Mangaluru, Apr 18: Congress' woes over ticket denial to some of the aspirants seem to be getting worse by the day. On Wednesday April 18, over 80 members of NSUI, the student wing of Congress tendered their resignation after the Youth Congress president Mithun Rai was denied ticket from Moodbidiri.
The move comes a day after several Youth Congress leaders and members announced their resignations over the same issue.
Addressing a press meet here, Roopesh Rai, state general secretary of NSUI, said, "The Youth Congress has a strong base in the entire Dakshina Kannada region because of a strong leader like Mithun Rai. The Youth Congress has helped the NSUI to grow and flourish in the district. Mithun Rai has been our role model and he is the only person who stood by district students at the time of crisis. We are growing because of a leader like Rai who has built the party from the grassroots level."
He further said, "Rai who started his career from the NSUI has been denied ticket by the party ahead of assembly polls. We thought that it would be a moral victory for us if our leader had represented the students and the youth in the Karnataka assembly. Unfortunately, our leader has been denied the ticket. We urge the party to reconsider the decision.
"In case Mithun Rai joins any other party, we will follow him. Our leader is deeply hurt and he has not been responding to our calls. We will wait for his future course of action.
"We have decided to tender our resignations through district Congress committee as we stand by our leader and would continue to work for the party in future too," he added.
Sachin Kulai, Abhishek Ullal, Suman Shetty, Joshua and others were present at the press meet.
