Haveri, Apr 18: Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ananth Kumar Hegde on Thuesday April 17 night alleged that a truck hit his convoy's car injuring his security personnel.
Hegde in a series of tweets said that the truck claimed that there was a threat to his life.
"A deliberate attempt on my life seems to have been executed just now. A truck on NH, near Halageri in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri district has hit my escort vehicle which tried to hit my vehicle in the first instance. Since our vehicle was in top speed we escaped the hit," he tweeted.
Hegde alleged that the driver of the truck had driven his vehicle in the wrong direction and had parked it horizontal to the road. Hegde also said that the driver seeing the convoy approaching towards it near Halageri in Ranebennur taluk of Haveri, accelerated and attempted to hit the oncoming cars.
However the minister escaped unhurt since he was travelling in another vehicle which was ahead of the convoy's car. One of the occupants in the convoy's car has suffered severe injuries and has fractured his shoulder in the mishap, Hegde claimed.
He also said that the driver was not in a inebriate state and the accident was deliberate to kill him.
"I suspect serious attempt on my life looking at the incident as it doesn't make an accident. The driver has purposefully tried hitting our vehicle and then hit our escort vehicle which is quiet evident in this video," he tweeted, posting a video of the incident.
The driver Nasir has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
However, as per the preliminary probe conducted by district superintendent of police K Parashuram, the mishap occurred when the driver took a right turn suddenly while talking over mobile phone. The SP also concluded that as per the primary investigation it was not a murder attempt.
