Bengaluru, Apr 17: Taking a dig at Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje for maintaining silence over the rape incidents at Kathua and Unnao, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Women’s Wing President Laxmi Hebbalkar challenged the BJP leader to condemn the incidents publicly.
“Karandlaje speaks a lot whenever there are incidents of violence. Why is she silent now?” she questioned.
Speaking to the reporters, Hebbalkar pointed out that BJP is in power in both states, where the rape incidents happened. In a matter of fact, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar is also named accused in Unnao case.
“It’s time, Karandlaje questions her party legislator. It’s time she raises her voice for women’s cause and condemns the atrocities against women,” she said.
In December 2017, Karandlaje had accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of inaction after the rape and murder of the 15-year-old minor Dalit girl in Vijayapura. She had said that 'Jehadis' were behind the incident.
An FIR was booked for the 'inflammatory' nature of tweets and Karandlaje was charged for provoking people to cause riots, disturbing communal harmony and spreading rumours.
