Mangaluru, Apr 17: In a setback to Congress ahead of the crucial state elections, Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress leaders and members on Tuesday April 17 decided to tender mass resignations after Youth Congress president Mithun Rai missed the ticket from Moodbidri constituency.
In a a press meet here, the Youth Congress leaders alleged that AICC president Rahul Gandhi had earlier promised to ensure tickets to youths. "Many youths had joined the Congress after Rahul Gandhi who is young and energetic took charge as the party president. But the recent developments wherein senior leader Abhaychandra Jain was issued the Moodbidri ticket has hurt us. We were expecting the ticket for our youth leader Mithun Rai."
They further said that Abhaychandra had promised to vacate the seat three years ago. Following his decison, Mithun had canvassed in Moodbidri for the last three years and undertaken developmental activities, they said.
"We are upset with the party's decision. We will be neutral in the Assembly polls until Mithun takes a stand in this regard. We are all with him," they said, adding that they will not go against the party and were expressing only their displeasure over ticket being denied to Mithun Rai.
"We hope that the high command and the state leaders understand our pain. We expect justice," they added.
Youth Congress leaders from Puttur block, Mangaluru South and North, Beltangady, Bantwal among others have decided to tender their resignations.
The members also alleged that they were unable to reach Mithun Rai.
Merril Rego, Mangaluru North, Taushif, Abhinandan Belthangady, Prathashanth, Kiran Kumar, Sohail Kandak state general secretory were present at the press meet.
