Mangaluru, Apr 12: There are several stories of women who had to give birth in transit after they were unable to make it to the hospital in time.
In one of the rarest incidents, a Mangaluru woman gave birth to her baby in a police car. The pregnant woman was helped through by a head constable Ravi Kumar, attached to Mangaluru Rural police station.
The family of pregnant woman had hired an auto-rickshaw to go to hospital since she had developed labour pain. Ravi Kumar, who was returning after dropping his children to school, seeing the family stuck in the middle of the road feeling awkward to travel in the auto-rickshaw near Yekkuru, asked them to shift to his car. The pregnant woman however delivered a baby when they reached Pumpwell Circle.
Ravi Kumar narrating the incident to Daijiworld said, "When I was returning after dropping my children to school, I found the pregnant woman along with her family. Since they were not comfortable to travel in the auto-rickshaw, I took them in my car and headed towards Fr Muller’s Hospital. When we reached Pumpwell Circle, I heard a baby crying in the car and the woman had delivered the child,"
He further said that religion does not matter to him, the humanity does. He made this statement after he was being thanked by many people in the social media for helping a Muslim woman.
The family of the pregnant woman was extremely grateful to the cop and even came forward to clean the car.
Ravi Kumar said that the woman and the baby are doing well at the hospital..
