Mangaluru, Apr 11: Karnataka Assembly elections have just got spicier, with Sandalwood actor and film director Huccha Venkat announcing that he would contest as an independent candidate from Bengaluru's Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency. He also said that he is entering the fray as he some day wants to become the Prime Minister of the country.
Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday April 11, Huccha Venkat said, "As I want to become the Prime Minister of India, I will be contesting from Rajarajeshwari constituency as an independent candidate. My election canvassing will be unique because I will not distribute sarees, drinks or money, nor will I visit houses to beg for votes. If you are doing good work, why do you need to beg for votes? I do not expect anything in return for my good works.
"If I become an MLA I will receive salary like the PM or the chief minister. It is public money, it is people who pay our salary. If you do not do good work, people have the right to queston you about your failures," he added.
"Some people may not vote for me because they have already been sold to some others in exchange for sarees, liquor or money. If I do not give all these gifts, would you vote for me? Sarees, liquor and money will last for one or two months, but you will be suffering for five years for not voting for the right person. I do not know to speak well, but I know to work well. I will work for the welfare of the people. For me all people, societies and religions are equal.
"These politicians need to be ashamed of concentrating only on the development of cities. What about village areas? Why should you pour money into an already developed city? Meet the needs of those who are satisfied with even a little, especially the poor," he said.
"(Congress president) Rahul Gandhi and other politicians tell lies in their speeches in rural areas, when they talk of providing interest-free loans. In budget, it was announced that loans would be give at 3 percent interest to the farmers. When these politicians speak lies in rural areas, people there believe them blindly, but in city people investigate, comment, and compliment - this is the difference. Instead of developing the cities, help the poor and the farmers, they will remember you lifelong," he added.
"I will contest and win and I will show the true meaning of hunger. I will start from grassroots level, that is poor and farmers, not from the top. Today's politicians start from the top and neglect the poor. If I became the Prime Minister I will first ban item songs. I am also a competitor to PM Modi," he said.
