Kundapur, Apr 10: "If spiritual heads of Maths become politicians and enter the houses of power, their loftiness gets compromised. Swamijis who win elections are compelled to work under the instructions of some political party. They have no right to violate whip issued by the party. This dents the nobility of the Swamijis," felt Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math.
He was responding to a question by a reporter whether he would support the candidature of Shiroor Math Swamiji if the latter chooses to fight coming election, on Monday April l9.
"I had said in the past that anyone who supports Hindutva will have my support. But in a democratic system, as compared to individuals, parties reign supreme and their supremacy cannot be undermined. Anyone who fights election independently and gets elected cannot do much on his own. Support of parties is very much needed for the protection of Hindutva. At the same time, fighting the election is the independent decision of Shiroor Swamiji and I have nothing to say in the matter," he clarified.
