Udupi, Apr 9: The election commission officials have booked a Kaup block Congress leader and a BJP leader for violating the code of conduct ahead of assembly polls due on May 12.
Kaup block Congress president Naveen Chandra Shetty is accused of providing meals to over 100 people during a party programme held Belapu two days ago. The incident came to light when the officials saw the video of the programme.
The officials said that a complaint has been registered based on evidence available on the video.
Meanwhile, BJP senior leader and Zilla panchayat member Geethanjali Suvarna were also booked for serving meals to the gathering during a party convention held in Katpadi. The authorities found video of this incident also.
Bantwal: Violation of code of conduct - case against two BJP workers
A case of violation of poll code of conduct was registered in the rural police station here against two BJP workers. Reportedly the violation happened in Kalleri in Arala village in the taluk.
The complaint was filed by staff of election squad of the local assembly constituency, Narayana Shetty and Joy Lobo. BJP's Arala unit general secretary, Umesh, and Ravi Arasu from Kalleri have been booked.
Allegedly, the duo had organized a meeting of BJP activists at Kalleri in Arala village on Sunday April 8. When the election officials went to the spot on getting information, reportedly they found that a meeting had been held at the home of Ravi Arasu and eatables were being provided to the participants. This fact finds a mention in the police complaint filed by the officials.
Video footage of the incident was scrutinized. The police, who have registered the case, are pursuing the matter.
