Udupi, Apr 8: Nine-year old Tanushree has brought laurels to Udupi by setting a new Guinness world record in yoga for full body revolution maintaining a chest sand position.
Hailing from Pithrody near Udyavar here, she broke the earlier record of Mohammed Al-Sheik from Palestine.
Mohammed from Palestine had done 38 full body revolutions in a minute whereas Tanushree surpassed his record with 42 revolutions. She was also successful in recording her name in the Golden Book of Records on November 11, 2017 for doing 'Niralamba Poorna Chakrasana' 19 times in a minute.
Speaking to reporters, Tanushree said, "I feel very happy about my achievement. I was confident about doing 42 revoutions. I was watching videos online and practicing. I have been exercising for 15-20 minutes every day. I want to continue my interest in Yoga further. I thank my parents for all their support."
Speaking about their daughter’s achievement, Uday Kumar, Tanushree’s father said, "Tanushree has keen interest in yoga. I feel proud of her achievement. She was practicing this by watching videos online. She was doing the same step in her dance performances but after watching the videos of the Palestinian boy performing, we also encouraged her to achieve this feat."
Swapnil, official adjudicator from Guinness World Records, Jaykar Shetty Indrali, managing director of Badagubettu Credit co-operative Bank Nagesh Udyavar, Ramkrishna Kodancha, dance teacher and other attended the event.
