Udupi, Apr 8: In a major gaffe, a CD released by the district administration and the election commission officials contained a game instead of songs on voter awareness.
The blunder came to light after deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis released an invitation and a CD containing around 17 songs including a Yakshagana song by Satish Patla on voting awareness. One of the CDs provided to journalists on the occasion had 'Yuri's Revenge' game instead of songs on voting awareness leaving the district administration officials embarrassed.
At a time when the election commission has warned of strict action against violators of code of conduct ahead of assembly elections in Karnataka due on May 12, it is yet be seen what action will be taken for the major gaffe from the part of officials themselves.
On the occasion of the CD release, DC Priyanka said that the songs on creating voting awareness are composed both in Kannada and Tulu language. The CD has been designed by Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee of Udupi district.
The district administration plans to use these CDs on social media, bus and railway stations, panchayats and public address system in SLRM vehicle. The invitation and the pamphlet with a slogan ‘Vote is your voice’ have been designed by students. Complaint against violation of Code of conduct, enrollment and deletion of names in the voter list, toll free number, and other awareness messages and information have been mentioned in the pamphlet.
The district election commission also launched launched Samadhan app for the purpose of receiving complaints from the public. Political party members, election candidates and the general public may register case visiting http//164.100.128.76/samadhan live/. Suvidha app was launched for political leaders to obtain permission for organizing public meetings, rallies, arranging campaign vehicles, temporary election office, using sound system and helicopter and helipad.
