Karwar, Apr 6: "If BJP aided by Sangh Parivar wins the election, it will result in a downfall of the democracy. Hence, citizens should make sure that their vote does not in any way benefit the BJP," said MLA from Gujarat and Dalit leader, Jignesh Mevani.
He was speaking after initiating 'Karnataka Movement for Protection of Constitution' launched here on Thursday April 5.
"Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) wants to execute its agenda of making changes in the Indian Constitution. This plan was revealed by union minister Anant Kumar Hegde," he said.
"All of us want a society where social justice is equally available to everyone. But RSS has been opposing this ideology since long. It has been indulging in communal politics in the country. Therefore, we should transcend considerations of caste, religion, party etc and cast voes against BJP and Sangh Parivar," he added.
Mevani said that the election in Karnataka is all the more importanct as the union government led by Narendra Modi is involved with politics in the name of cows and whiled away time in the guise of Love Jihad. Dalits are being killed. He questioned what schemes have the central government implemented for the benefit of farmers, young people, backwad classes, poor people, Dalits, and minorities.
"Why is the centre not acting to prevent farmer suicides? BJP has cheated Dalits," he said.
On Monday, Mevani had participated in a protest against the deaths of Dalits in Bengaluru. Addressing the protesters, Mevani had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to generate 20 million jobs every year but was now firing bullets at Dalits.
Terming BJP as completely casteist, communal and fascist, the Dalit leader said that he will appeal to all voters in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh to not cast a single vote for BJP.
Writer, Jayaram Hegde, presided. Former minister, B T Lalita Nayak, anti-corruption crusader, S R Hiremath, general secretary of Karnataka for Protection of Constitution, K L Ashok, and others were present.
Shivamogga: Speaking at Shivamogga at a programme organized by Karnataka for Protection of Constitution, Jignesh Mavani, who was the lead speaker, said that BJP wants to bag power to modify the Constitution that is socialistic and secular in nature, and turn it into corporate Constitution. He said that people from all classes should oppose Narendra Modi when he comes to Bengaluru for election campaigning on April 15. He asked people to question Modi about his promise of creation of two crore jobs and crediting Rs 15 lac to accounts of individuals.
Actor, Prakash Rai, inaugurated the programme and addressed the gathering. Nagideva Sharanaru of Chalavadi Gurupeeta, Shivamogga Bishop, Dr S G Francis Serrao, Jamia Masjid priest, Maulana Hyder Ali, Dalit leader, M Gurumurty, and others were present.
