Beltangady, Aug 26: A boy and a girl, belonging to the same community, were in love with each other since the last four years. They could not marry as their parents were unwilling to give their approval to the marriage. At last, they married on Monday August 25, in the presence of policemen and a good gathering of local people.
Ahmed (28), son of Khader from Karmbittil, Sonandur village and Hasina, daughter of Ahmed from Maddadka, Kuvettu village, were in love but were helpless because of strong opposition from their parents. It is said that Hasina's parents initially had expressed their willingness for the alliance and got help from Ahmed. In the recent past however, they changed their minds and reportedly subjected Hasina to mental torture, pressuring her to get rid of Ahmed.
Ahmed and Hasina secretly conversed over phone and decided to flee from the village. With the help of local rickshaw drivers and locals, they fled to a secret place. They then approached the police station and declared their intention to get married under police escort and solemnized marriage in a local mosque on Monday evening.
Moe than 75 people belonging to all religions steadfastly supported the uniting of the couple.
