Sullia, Aug 25: Valuables worth over Rs 70,000 including computers were stolen by thieves, from Sri Subrahmanyeshwara PU College of Subrahmanya, on Saturday August 23 night.

The thieves who gained entry into the office room of the college, took away computer sets, TFT monitor, two printers, typewriter and UPS, college principal Vasant Shetty said, in a complaint filed with the local police. The thieves are said to have broken the locks of the college premises by using hacksaw blades.

The sniffer dogs which were summoned moved on the Kallapane road for about half a kilometre before losing trail. The thieves are guessed to have made good their escape by using a vehicle. Subrahmanya police station in-charge Sharat Kumar has registered a case. No leads or clues have so far been available.

The fact that the thieves entered the office room where confidential records are stored, instead of going to the room where about 25 computers are kept, has given rise to the suspicion, that the actual purpose of the thieves was either to alter certain records or to collect some secret information.
