Mangaluru, Mar 29: The new draft plan for implementation of 'Coastal Regulatory Zone (CRZ) Notification - 2011', in tune with long-pending demands of the three districts in Karnataka coast is undergoing revision at Chennai now, duly taking account opinions and suggestions of the general public. Report thereof will be submitted to the union department of environment and forests. Once the draft gets cleared by this department,it would be published.
High level officials concerning CRZ from Dakshina Kannada,Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts are on a visit to National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management at Chennai. They are working on revision of the plan since the last two days. After affecting some changes in the new plan already prepared, they will sent fresh report to the union government in a couple of days. As per the new provisions, depending on local conditions and needs, changes can be brought about in CRZ rules. In all likelihood, some leverage may be given in rules relating to the normal lives of the people living in this zone, it is said.
The organization in Chennai had been appointed on March 14, 2014 by the union environment and ofrest ministry to mark high tide line and low tide line. During that period, the work of preparing seashore zone management plan also was entrusted to it. The organization accordingly undertook studies,spot inspection etc in coastal region of Karnataka and prepared a draft of the coastal regulatory zone. After obtaining nod for the plan at the meeting os state management authority, opinions and suggestions had been invited from the generl public.
The new plan will replace the plan prepared in1996 that is currently in force in Karnataka. CRZ has four sections. CRZ notification has underwent 25 modifications till now.
