Bengaluru, Mar 27: Despite days of trade barbing at each other, the JD(S) Supremo H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday said that his party is ready for a pre-poll alliance with the Congress in the upcoming assembly polls due on May 12.

Minutes after Election commission announced the election dates, speaking to the media persons, H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday March 27, said that the JD(S) would give full co-operation if the Congress proposes alliance. "Let the Congress tell us how many seats will they give us, later we will decide how many seats we should give them. The JD(S) chief however denied any post-poll alliance with the Congress.

His statement comes days after the Congress chief Rahul Gandhi dubbed the JD(S) as the B team of the BJP and also called it Janata Dal Sangh Parivar. JD(S) too counter attacked saying, "When Siddaramaiah was Deputy CM and Dharam Singh was CM, we were team B for Congress. Now again whether we become team B for Congress or Congress will become team B for JD(S), we will watch."

The polling date for the 224-member Karnataka assembly was announced on March 27 by the Election Commission. The voting for the elections will be held on  May 12 and counting will be held on May 15.
