Tumakuru, Mar 26: National president of BJP, Amit Shah, visited Siddagang Math here and met its spiritual head, Dr Shivakumar Swamiji on Monday March 26 morning.
After meeting the Swamiji, Amit Shah stated that meeting the Swamiji makes him feel like having met the God in person and a feeling of being blessed permeated through him. "I am impressed by the fact that the Math has been operating over a hundred institutions and that it also has been implementing a number of people-centric programmes," he said.
He later tweeted, "Today I had the good fortune to seek blessings from the 'Walking God' Sri Sri Sri Shivakumara Swamiji of Siddhaganga Mutt, Tumakuru. His tireless work even at his advanced age is inspiring. His life is a living lesson and guiding light for all of us (sic)."
Shah's visit to the Math gains significance because of the state government's recent decision to accord separate religion status to Lingayat. The state has sent its recommendation in this respect to the centre. The way Shah has been visiting Maths during his current tour of the state gives a hint that he may be trying to make sure that Lingayar community remains loyal to BJP.
Shah reiterated that the coming assembly election would be fought by BJP under the leadership of B S Yeddyurappa, state president of BJP. He added that he has obtained Swamiji's blessings, which would invigorate the party.
Along with Yeddyurappa, in-charge of BJP's Karnataka af fairs, Muraleedhar Rao, MP, Prahlad Joshi, union minister, Ananth Kumar, and several other leaders were present during the said meeting.
Amit Shah, who is undertaking two-day tour of Karnataka, will address farmers cultivating coconuts and areca nuts, hold road shows, and visit Maths.
