Mangaluru, Mar 26: City police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that city (north) subdivision assistant police commissioner, Rajendra, has been asked to conduct detailed investigation into the incident which reportedly happened near Fatima Beach, Tannirbavi, on the evening of Saturday March 24.
Reportedly, some male and female students who were on a visit to the beach, were attacked by a gang on Saturday evening.
People living in Fatima Beach area, who met the police commissioner on Sunday relating to registration of three persons in connection with this incident, submitted a petition. The villagers said that the three young men who have been named in the first information report had given sane advice to some students after finding them to be behaving indecently, and not attacked them. Therefore, they sought review of the case filed against them. The police commissioner in response, said that the assistant commissioner will conduct detailed investigation into the incident.
The villagers said that during the weekend, large number of young men and women visit Tannirbavi beach, and some of them are found to be indulging in obscene activities. "This gives rise to a sense of awkwardness to the local people. To control this behaviour, CCTV cameras should be installed and a police outpost should be set up there, they demanded. The commissioner in response, said that MLA, J R Lobo, has promised to provide grant of ten lac rupees to install CCTV cameras to a distance of ten km from Casba Bengre in Tannirbavi to Ferry Road. He promised to beef up police patrolling in the area and ask the concerned to cut down bushes near the beach. He added that the question of creating police outpost in the area is now pending at the government level.
The delegation of villagers was led by city corporator, Raghuveer, Youth Club president, Naveen Suvarna, Prdeep Suvarna, Mahila Mandal president, Bharati Suvarna, Laxman Suvarna, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike women's unit president, Shreelata Salian, president of self help group, Vijaya, and others.
