Udupi, Aug 22: State home minister Dr V S Acharya said that the state government is prepared to sanction liberal grants for the renovation of temples.

He was speaking after presiding over the religious function organized in the Yellur Sri Vishweshwara temple premises, in connection with the renovation plan of the temple at a cost of  about six crore rupees, on Thursday August 21.

Non-resident Indian businessman Dr B R Shetty, who was the chief guest of the function, said that the people of Yellur are fortunate enough to get an opportunity to participate in the renovation and reconstruction of this famed temple after 1,200 years. He handed over a blank cheque to managing administrator of the temple Y Prafulla Shetty through the state home minister, as his contribution towards the temple renovation fund. Another chief guest and NRI businessman Shekhar B Shetty wished that the renovation of this temple having a mythological background will go on smoothly. Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon also was present on the dais, as a chief guest.

Various religious procedures connected with the initiation process of renovation project titled 'Sannidhya Sankocha' were conducted under the guidance of Vedamurti Bettige Gururaj Tantri and Paryaya Tantri Vedamurti Kenja Sridhar Tantri.
