Mangaluru, Mar 15: MLA J R Lobo inaugurated 'Career Connect', a mega job fair at Milagres College here on Thursday, March 15.
Addressing the gathering, Lobo said, “It is sad to see the situation when educated youth do not get good jobs. When they are unemployed, they become desperate. If youths are desperate, the society will fall in danger. So it is the society’s responsibility to provide jobs to youths.
“Companies participating in job fairs want to hire the best and those who can accelerate the companies’ growth and earnings. Those matching the companies’ requirements get jobs. Hence, students should have competitive mentality. Qualification and competition are like two faces of a coin. Both are very important in our life. Hard work and commitment always brings success and companies always look for these types of candidates for their business setup.
“In our country, youth are not getting jobs as per their qualifications and eligibility. They are unhappy in India’s job market and hence going abroad. In Mangaluru also, we are facing the same problem. We have outstanding education facilities here and churning out thousands of graduates every year. But job opportunities are very few. I have a dream of making this city an investment friendly city. It will help our youths to settle here.
Chief guest Archibald Menezes, management member said, “Getting a good job is becoming an adventure these days. Job aspirants are facing tough competition at this stage. Companies too prefer candidates with experience. Hence, fresh graduates find it difficult to get a job. But these types of job fairs help potential candidates to get a decent job as per their qualification. We are conducting this job fair as part of social responsibility. I wish all the best and a bright future all the job aspirants who have come here.”
Fr Micheal Santhumayor, principal welcomed the dignitaries and students. Prof Lourd Swamy of Milagres College, Fr Maxim D’Souza, principal, Milagres PU College, Suman Lasrado, programme co-ordinator, and Cycilia Fernandes, PPP were present.
Thousands of students and job seekers will try their luck at the job fair. As many as 3,500 jobs are on offer from 65 state and national level companies.
