Mangaluru, Mar 11: National president of Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, will be spearheading Janasheervada Yatra to be taken out in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on March 20. Party sources said that elaborate arrangements are being made by district Congress committees of both these districts to make the tour a grand success. Towards this end, a meeting of Congress leaders is being held at the Congress office here on March 13 under the leadership of All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary, Vishnunathan.
In all likelihood, Rahul will begin the Yatra either from Byndoor on Kundapur on March 20 by taking a bus that is being specially designed for the purpose. When the entourage reaches Mulky, which is located on Dakshina Kannada district's border, Rahul Gandhi will be extended grand welcome. The procession will move on the national highway and reach Nehru Maidan in the city where a mega public meeting will be held.
As per current plans, Rahul Gandhi will stay at the Circuit House here on March 20.
Taking cue from the mega success of road shows organized by Rahul Gandhi in Hyderabad Karnataka region, more emphasis is likely to be laid on road shows in Karnataka coast too. Dakshina Kannada district Congress president, Harish Kumar, said that programmes to be organized on the occasion of Rahul Gandhi's visit will be chalked out at the meeting being held on Tuesday.
A meeting of active workers of Congress chaired by district Congress president, Harish Kumar, was held to discuss about the said progrramme. In addition to Vishnunathan, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC)general secretary,U B Venkatsh, in-charge of Rahul Gandhi's office,Biju, KPCC secretaries,Mamata Gatti, Deviprasad Shetty, Naveen D'Souza, Ibrahim Kodijal, K S M Masood, etc participated.
On Saturday, Congress leaders visited Nehru Maidan and held discussions about the arrangements to be put in place there to ensure that the public meeting programme there becomes highly successful. In addition to Vishnunathan, ministers, U T Khader and B Ramanath Rai, KPCC secretary,U B Venkatesh, MLA, J R Lobo, district Congress president, Harish Kumar, city mayor Bhaskar, Shashidhar Hegde and others were present. Over a lac people are expected to come together for this programme, as per the current expectations.
