Udupi March 10: “Alevoor Premaraj Kini, Rajesh Padubidri and their associate should be arrested for threatening Sadhu, a scheduled caste from Belthangady taluk, or else major protest will be carried out in front of chief minister's office,” warned Jayan Malpe, district convener of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (R).
He was addressing a press meet held on Saturday March 10.
Malpe said, “Sadhu’s mother expired in an accident. The insurance company had deposited Rs 2,57,549 at Udupi district court. Lawyer Alevoor Premaraj Kini by forging the signature of the family members of Sadhu and using fake seals of the court, snatched the insurance amount. Sadhu had filed a complaint against Premaraj Kini and others, seven years ago. The court had called Sadhu on March 5 as witness to the case but, on March 3, Premaraj Kini, Rajesh Padubidri and one of their associates visited Sadhu’s house. They threatened him not to give out any witness against Premaraj. A complaint was filed against all three at Udupi police station on March 5 by Sadhu. Police are now under pressure and have not taken any action against the culprits. This shows the failure of police department. Sadhu is a poor daily wage worker belonging to the SC community.”
Malpe also urged them to cancel the bail amount given to Premaraj Kini and to arrest the culprits as soon as possible. On failure of doing so a major protest across the district will be held in front of the chief minister's house.
