Mangalore, Aug 13: Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police Sateesh Kumar has clarified that no organizations have been forbidden from hoisting the national flag on the Independence Day. However, no one will be allowed to take out route marches in the districts. This point has been made clear to all Hindu organizations as well as Popular Front organization, he said.
"We do not object to any one hoisting the national flag on that day anywhere, subject to following the rules governing it. But, we will not permit taking out of processions, he added. Those who only undertake the programme of flag hoisting, will be provided with police security. But no such arrangement can be made for people willing to take out processions," he asserted.
Security arrangements for the district-level Interdependence Day celebrations being held at the Nehru Maidan in the city have already begun. The security will be tightened this time in view of the recent bomb blasts, he said.
No meetings of officials on the issue of giving permission for processions have been held. "But I am aware of the fact that a few organizations have been frequenting the offices of the deputy commissioner and the district police headquarters, in an effort to get permission for processions," he said.
Office-bearers of Popular Front of India organization have already said that the organization will hold freedom parade at the football ground in the city, on the afternoon on August 15.
