Udupi, Aug 11: President of Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers Union, in tune with a decision taken by the union's board of directors, has requested the chairman of the Karnataka State Milk Federation to enhance the price of the milk it sells, by a minimum of two rupees a litre, with the aim of protecting the interests of the farmers.
He has also requestd for sanctioning and releasing of the inentive of two rupees a litres as announced in the state budget, to the farmers of the district. The production cost of milk is going up day by day. Because of the hike in the energy cost, expenses incurred on collection and distribution of milk has seen a sharp upward trend. All the raw materials that go into milk production have become costly. Even the cattle feed prices are likely to up shortly.
In view of the above, Shetty has urged the federation chairman to permit the union to hike the milk price by two rupees a litre.
