Udupi, Aug 9: Two advocates of the city were reportedly attacked by members of the police anti-naxal squad near Sirimane Falls, in Sringeri, on Saturday, August 9.
The victims have been identified as Wilfred of Moodubelle and Udaykumar Tekkatte. Sources informed that a group of 12 advocates had been on a picnic to the waterfall and were shouting for their vehicles, parked about five kms away, when the police who were on duty took to task the advocates and assaulted the two severely.
When one of the lawyers asked for a higher official, he was pulled inside the squad vehicle where they threatened to shoot him. The anti-naxal squad is also reported to have followed the advocates vehicles for nearly five kilometers.
The injured were given first aid at Hebri and later admitted to Ajjarakad hospital in Udupi. A complaint has been filed with the superintedndent of police in-charge, M B Nagaraju.
Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, president, bar association, visited the hospital and told media persons that a meeting of the association will be held on Sunday, August 10. A decision will be taken in the meeting about the future course of action to be adopted, he added.
