Bengaluru, Feb 23: There is information that Congress party this time has decided to allot at least 10 of its tickets to youngsters. By sending a signal to the young citizens who have the capacity to tilt results of the election that it is giving prominence to them, the party wants to woo the votes from the younger generation in a big way.
It is said that All India Congress Committee president, Rahul Gandhi, has directed state level observers of the party to see that young activists of the party are given a share when allotting tickets for the assembly election. He also has asked them to identify eligible youth and send a list thereof to the national leadership of the party.
The state leaders have begun a hunt for young winning horses from the party. It is said that All India Congress Committee secretary, Krishna Allavaru, discussed the matter with ticket aspirants from youth Congress and finalized ten names for being allotted party tickets. Krishna interviewed young aspirants of the party at a meeting held late on Wednesday night and asked them to describe their positive attributes which they think qualify them for the tickets.
He also collected certain documents which support their claims that they have a bright chance of winning the election if fielded. Krishna also collected information like the way the party organization was strengthened locally, caste calculations etc. The documentary support provided by the young leaders was sent to Rahul Gandhi. After taking into consideration all the aspects, the names of around ten persons have been finalized, sources stated.
It is said that over 25 ticket aspirants took part in the interview. The party feels that in some pockets, young candidates can sway votes in their favour if fielded, as compared to old leaders with unsatisfactory track record.
Sources revealed that Abhayachandra Jain, Moodbidri MLA, who was earlier requested by chief minister Siddramaiah, to change his stand on not fighting the election again, has prevailed on the CM to agree to field Youth Congress district president Mithun Rai from his constituency this time.
The names of selected young leaders with their constituencies are as follows:
Mithun Rai - Moodbidri, Krishna Nayak Hoovina Hadagali, Amrutraj/Byregowda - T Dasarahalli, Vinod - Navalgunda, Basavanagowda Badarli - Sindhanur, Saumya Reddy - Jayanagar, Dr Yogeesh - Molakalmur, Swati Malagi - Hubballi-Dharwad (west), and Geeta Rajanna - Turuvekere.
