Bantwal, Feb 13: A container truck that was being used to illegally transport cattle went out of control of its driver and tumbled at Hanchikatte near here on Monday February 12.
The truck in question was found to be carrying a total of 14 cattle. Out of them, a bullock was found to have died.
The vehicle was bringing nine bullocks and five she-buffaloes from the direction of Chikkamagaluru towards Mangaluru illegally when its driver lost control over the vehicle when it was negotiating the road bend at Hanchikatte.
Those in the vehicle fled from the scene immediately after the accident. Locals then joined hands with the police to rescue the animals. Police sub-inspector of the rural station here, Prasanna, along with other staff, conducted spot inspection. Under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Ravikanthe Gowda, a special team has been formed and investigation has been undertaken.
