Mangaluru, Feb 11: Relating to the incident in which motor bike-borne youth had reportedly attacked a woman and her male escort moving in a car at Adyapady on Friday February 9, two complaints on behalf of the both the sides stand filed in Bajpe police station.
Two persons, who reportedly work at the airport here, said that their car was intercepted by a gang, which attacked them and tried to rob them of their possessions. In a counter complaint, five young men levelled certain charges against the above persons. It was earlier alleged that the attackers were part of a right-wing group, but there was no confirmation from the police.
It is gathered that a party had been organized on the night of Friday at Bondel at the residence of the manager of the city office of an airline. It was late in the night when the party came to an end. As it was deep into the night, a lady from Adyapady returning to her home was given lift in the car of a colleague in his car. The man and the lady who travelled by the car stated in their complaint that when they were moving in the car, five persons who came in motor bikes, stopped them at Adyapady road, attacked them, snatched away their ATM card, and withdrew money by forcibly collecting PIN from them.
The accused men numbering five said in their complaint that they were going home in their bikes when they saw a car in a desolate spot. They said they observed that a male and female were sitting inside the car, and questioned them by going near the car. "The man suddenly developed cold feet, and tried to move the car forward in a hurry. In doing so, his car hit one of the motor bikes. As the youth tried to flee, we followed him, intercepted his car, and demanded money from him for making good the loss suffered to the motor bike. The lady said they do not have cash with them, but handed over an ATM card and provided the PIN, duly asking us to withdraw money," they explained.
The young men said they went to the ATM at the airport and withdrew Rs 400, Rs 1,000, and Rs 100 respectively. They said by the time they returned to the spot at Adyapady where the car was waiting, the people in the car had already brought together a crowd. "The crowd then attacked us," the men claimed.
During the fight between the two sides, three young men who were injured, got admitted into a hospital for treatment. During police investigation, it was found that the car was a little damaged after hitting the roadside berm. In this incident, the airbag of the car also had got inflated, the police observed.
