Udupi, Feb 9: “The annual flower exhibition and horticultural show will be conducted at the flower auction center premises Shivalli Doddanagudde for three days from February 10 to 12,” said zilla panchayat CEO Shivanand Kapashi.
Speaking at a press meet held at zilla panchayat auditorium on Thursday, February 8 he said, “This annual flower show is being organised on occasion of Farmers Day 2018, in association with district administration, zilla panchayat Udupi, horticulture and agriculture associated departments. Flower models based on Shivalinga model, Nandi, elephant, butterfly, and tiger too would be displayed.
“The main attraction of the flower show is a twelve feet Shivalinga which would be decorated using 3,100 red, white, yellow colour roses and 75 kg marigold and chrysanthemum flowers. Another attraction is a five feet tall Nandi statue made out using 3600 gerbera flowers. Different animals would be designed using 4,000 carnation flowers, 1000 alstroemeria lilly flowers and 25 kg marigold chrysanthemum. A vertical garden and decorative bushes made of Cactus will also be on display.
“Popoular coastal vegetable ‘Mattugulla’ (Eggplant) and varieties of jasmine saplings will be displayed at the show. A beautiful model of terrace garden would be displayed by Solid and Liquid Resource Management and Kenna plantation is also there in the show.
“District in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj will inaugurate the flower show. Zilla panchayat president Dinakar Babu would preside over the programme. Horticulture department and private stalls will be installed.
“District’s successful farmers will be honoured on the occasion. There will be a colourful cultural programme organised by Kannada and Sanskrit department. A variety of ground vegetables and mango, cashew, and bush pepper saplings would be there in the show,” said CEO Kapashi.
The preparation for the show is on full swing since one and half month.
Nidhish is in-charge of the flower show. According to him, over 350 vegetable saplings would be displayed. “The show will provide a platform for people to display their flower arrangements, bonsai plants, orchids and anthurium. Chrysanthemum, geranium, marigold, Petunya, Dalia, gladiola, salvia and many others will be displayed at the show,” he said.
The flower show-cum-exhibition is open for public. Visitors can buy the saplings and other things put up on sale.
