Mangaluru, Feb 8: The entire skyline of coastal districts in Karnataka was covered by clouds on Wednesday February 7. Several places experienced drizzle on account of light whirlwind which blew over the surface of Bay of Bengal, it is learnt.
Besides the city, Puttur, Malpe, Kaup, Padubidri, Udupi, Karkala, Hebri, Subrhamanya, Haleangady, Shirva and other areas experienced cloudy weather since Wednesday morning. Kundapur, Padubidri, Moodbidri, Udupi, Barkur, Beltangady, Kota and some places in Kundapur taluk also experienced drizzle. Kollur, Byndoor, Vandse, Tekkatte, Shankarnarayana etc in Kundapur taluk too had cloudy weather followed by light rain in the evening. Rainfall in Belman and Mundkur areas was more pronounced. The normal temperature recorded in the city also registered some changes.
The temperature during the day was cooler than usual. The meteorological department said that the city recorded 34.4 degree maximum temperature and minimum temperature of 20.6 degree on Tuesday, but the respective figures for Wednesday were 33.9 and 22.6 degrees celsius.
Farmers who were happy at the way their mango and cashew trees had blossomed and were expecting a bumper harvest, are a bit wary as cloudy weather usually harms the mango and cashew flowers. Director in meteorological department, Sundar M Metri, said that light rain scattered over several areas of the coast is expected on Thursday and that some places are likely to get rain coupled with thunder. He said that in the coming days, maximum temperature will show a downward trend while the minimum temperature will register upward trend.
