Bengaluru, Feb 7: "Survey work for Deen Dayal Rural Electrification Programme is complete in the district of Udupi and work of electric route is in progress. This work is slated to end by April 2018," said D K Shivakumar, minister for energy.
He was replying to a query by Pratapchandra Shetty of Congress party in the legislative council. The minister also said, "A contract in this regard is entered into with M/s Manipal Energy and Infratech Ltd, Manipal at a cost of Rs 9.41 crore.
"We have received 1,362 applications under this scheme in Udupi and 958 applications have been considered as eligible. In Karkal 981 applications out of the 1,735 received and in Kundapur 1,356 applications out of the 2,366 received are considered eligible for electical connection to be provided.
"In all, in Udupi district, 3,295 people have been identified as beneficiaries under this scheme out of a total 5,463 that have applied for the benefit. The government has a time limit of 24 months to provide electrical connection to these families," he added.
