Kasargod, Feb 6: Kumble police have arrested two men accused of breaking into mobile phone shops.
The arrested are Pakkaladka, Kankanady resident Ajaz (22) and Chembugudde, Ullal resident Hidayath (23).
The thieves, who broke into the shop belonging to Mohammed Rafiq at Adka, Bandyod on January 30, had decamped with Rs 4,000 cash, three mobile phones and fifty packets of cigarettes. They had sold a mobile phone and were using the remaining two mobile phones after changing the SIM card. The police conducted investigations with the help of cyber cell and arrested the duo. Police said that more than twenty cases in several police stations including Ullal are registered against them.
They are also suspected in ganja peddling and theft cases. As many as 11 cases of vehicle theft, ganja peddling and cattle theft are registered against Hidayath. Nine similar cases are registered against Ajaz.
They had arrived in Uppala on January 30 for selling ganja and were wandering looking for cigarettes at midnight. As all the shops were closed, they reached Bandyod, broke into the shop and conducted the theft.
The suspects were produced at Kasargod court which ordered their judicial custody. Kumble police said that they will be applying for extension of their custody for additional questioning.
