Bengaluru: Mother, four-year-old son charred to death in tragic car fire

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Feb 3: In a heart-wrenching incident reported from Whitefield in the city, a mother and her four-year-old son were burnt alive inside the car as the car suddenly caught fire.

Neha Verma (30), a native of Indore in Madhya Pradesh and her son Param (4), residents of 'Sumadhura Anandam' apartments, situated at the Borewell road of Nelluruhalli, are the unfortunate victims of this tragedy.

The incident took place in the basement parking area of the apartment on the afternoon of Friday, February 2.

Neha, wife of Rajesh Kumar, a native of Belagavi, was parking her Maruti Ritz car in the basement, when it suddenly caught fire and quickly gained intensity.

The police said that the duo left their home at around 12.30 pm, and later, at around 3.25 pm, the security guards found the car burning and rushed to the spot. "They were unable to douse it and informed the fire and emergency services department. Police were also informed and they rushed to the scene. A fire tender reached the spot and doused the fire by 4 pm. The mother and son were found charred to death," police said.

It is suspected that short circuit in the engine could have been the cause of the fire.

Why is it always 'Short Circuit' the ONLY reason for fires...............just because we dont understand any other aspects on how fire could start?

Please dont put the same non-sense reason over and over again without any basis.

    Sunil D'souza,
That shows we are intelligent and very very quick. Our police force don't want to work hard. If there is fire, short circuit. If someone is hanging, they will tell it is suicide, If a dead body found in river suicide or washed away. Police department want to close the case so fast before it can happen!.

I dont know if the general public is aware of this fact...........there is a 'Black Box' like device in all cars which records the vital parameters of a car and diagnoses faults and stores the various fault codes. The device is called OBD2 or On Board Diagonistic 2.

This device is present in all cars including the Tata Nano. You can easily connect this device to your android phone or any other device like PC to analyze various car parameters like engine temperature , coolant level , oxygen content etc. Just need a WiFi or Bluetooth OBD 2 connector. Connect the device to the OBD2 connector on the car and you have all details on the phone.

Unfortunately the ECU (electronic control unit) of the car is not flame proof that's why I call it 'Black Box Like' not exactly but somewhat like a Black Box.

Maruti Ritz car? Ask the Japanese company for an explanation, (that is if the technology was indeed theirs) before they split up with Indian Suzuki. There are incidents coming up with foreign cars not viable with Indian climate .. you call that 3rd generation or 4th generation model or something like that. You see there are cases where European cars ADAPT only to European climatic condition. So ideally could this be a case-in-point for Ritz too? Maybe some expert could throw more light into these instance(s) which could in the long run benefit vehicle owners for a safer tomorrow.

Meanwhile this is a double tragedy for the mother and the child and more so, the government should intervene to avoid such recurrences in-the-near-future.

FYI, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), formerly known as Maruti Udyog Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, is India's largest passenger car company, accounting for over 50 per cent of the domestic car market."

something very fishy here , only high speed crashes have immediate explosion where people get trapped in wreckage and couldn't get out, in a parked car ??? and also no witness .. by the way close family members are the first suspect in these cases, if maruthi caused fire so easily half India population would have been disappeared. police should ask her husband first.

There is no accident here, in the basement parking area fire has happened, fire will not spread so quickly there is a high chances of coming out of jump out if anyone uses brain and mind, but in this case lack of knowledge and panic situation must lost in life.

Handbrake can be one of the reason. . Any fire in the engine you have enough time to come out as the bonnet is closed oxygen supply is less. But when hand breaks are jammed and driven the heat will be immense, tires and under the car gets fire and will en gulp within no time. Please make sure you release the handbrakes before you drive

Please stop posting nonsense, No vehicles has been ever burnt coz of tyres , If that was the case every race cars, stunt cars should have been burnt by doing immense burnouts and braking.

Dear Sagar please note this is not a race car.. Race Cars have special tires with different radials. They are not driving with handbrakes on. Hand breaks on and you drive will create immense heat plus oxygen and a object to burn will create fire. Tyre's are not getting fire because of heat. They are burned because of existing fire. Do your homework before commenting nonsense.
