Santosh Poojary with Anushree
Santosh Poojary had left his village for Mumbai ten years back. He has been working as manager in a lodge at Mira Road there.
Anushree had obtained diploma engineering certificate through Nitte University. When she was working at Bengaluru, Santosh Poojary fell in love with her. Santosh in course of time, had come to know that she did not like him. He had arrived at her home one night with a sword, and threatened to kill all the members of the family if she was not given in marriage to him. The family, which was overtaken by fear, agreed for his demand and conducted her marriage, the family members said in their complaint.
The marriage of Anushree and Santosh Poojary was registered in the office of the sub-registrar here on January 6, 2017. A simple marriage officiated by priests was performed on March 23 the same year at the residence of Anushree's grandmother. Thereafter, Santosh Poojary went to Mumbai, leaving Anushree at her parental home.
Anushree in the meantime, went to Bengaluru in search of employment, bagged a job and was working there. As soon as he came to know about it, her husband got her to come back home and escorted her to Mumbai from there. As the marriage appeared to be developing cracks, Suguna Poojary went to Mumbai in an effort to cement the relationship of her daughter and son-in-law. As the differences persisted, Anushree returned to her home with her mother, the complaint says.
Anushree, who returned from the town in a private bus and got down at Tellar, was going to Hermunde after crossing River Swarna via Balaje plantation when Santosh who came from behind, suddenly attacked her. Even before she could try to free herself from his clutches, he swung his sword at her two hands and two legs, duly shouting at her that he had decided to kill her instead of agreeing for divorce. Anushree, whose condition is precarious, gave this statement to the police.
