Panaji, Jul 26: Chief minister Digamber Kamat reviewed entire security situation in the State in the wake of serial bomb blasts in the neighbouring state of Karnataka on Saturday July 26.
"The way terrorism is creating problem in our neighbourhood, they can create problem anywhere. Each state should take the precaution," Kamat told media persons emerging from the meeting at his official residence here.
The high-level meeting comprising of Home minister Ravi Naik, chief secretary J P Singh, director general of police B S Brar, inspector general of police Kishan Kumar and superintendents of police was held by the chief minister.
The State being a tourist state has decided to take abundant precautions as any strike here can send a wrong signal internationally.
"The State has been ready for last two to three years to face any terror attack. The police have worked out a methodology to fight back," Kamat said.
Home minister Ravi Naik said that the state will summon two companies of central forces in addition to the existing Goa police strength. "There is no specific threat to the State but still we have intensified the checking across the state," Naik said.
The home minister ruled out any specific intelligence input about terror attack on Goa. "We have decided to post policemen in civil dress at crowded places and also activate the criminal investigation division (CID)," he stated.
The State which was on the target of SIMI after Bangalore had sounded red alert on Friday July 25 after serial bomb blasts rocked the country's IT capital. The state police are working on speculations that the State may be a terror target.
"The red alert will continue for next two days," director general of police B S Brar said.
He stated that Goa being tourism spot, abundant precautions are taken as people from all over the globe come to holiday here. The DGP said that the department will make its intelligence system more professional.
The police who were checking almost all the vehicles at the state borders have continued their search even on Saturday. "The borders will remain normal but there will be thorough checking," Brar said.
State chief secretary J P Singh said that the government machinery is gearing up as Bangalore is just next door. "There is no specific threat but it is our duty to gear up," he added.
