Margao, Jul 24: Joaquim Alemao, minister for urban development and fisheries, has served an ultimatum to Hyderabad-based company Hyquip, to start work on commissioning the garbage treatment plant at Sonsado-Margao within the next seven days. Failure to do so will result in the government cancelling the agreement.
Hyquip has failed to commission the project though it has been a year and a half since the contract was given to them. The company’s failure to start the project infuriated the locals and they have been demanding cancellation of the agreement and handing over the project to some other company.
Recently, the Margao municipal council also resolved to cancel the agreement. Alemao assured the locals that if the next seven days do not see any progress on the part of Hyquip, he would definitely take action.
